How to choose a laser cleaning machine

Pulsed or continuous-wave?

Pulsed lasers offer control over pulse energy, frequency and duration for precision cleaning. Continuous-wave (CW) machines can suit larger steel surfaces and high-throughput rust removal where heat input is acceptable. Neither is the right choice for every surface.

Match the surface, not just the wattage

Base material, coating thickness and the required finish affect the cleaning process. Thin metal, detailed molds and heat-sensitive surfaces need careful parameter testing. Higher average power alone does not guarantee a better finish or faster cleaning.

Compare the daily workload

Specify the area to clean, target cycle time and operating hours. Compare cooling, electrical supply, scan width and duty cycle alongside laser power. A sample test is the useful way to establish cleaning speed for your workpiece.

Choose handling and access

Backpack and suitcase formats help with transport; cabinet machines suit shop-floor use. For repeated parts, review fixtures, motion control and access with an automated system. Machine format does not determine the laser technology.

Frequently asked questions

Is pulsed or continuous laser cleaning better?

Pulsed cleaning is often selected when control of heat input and surface finish matters. CW cleaning can be suitable for larger, robust metal surfaces. The choice depends on the substrate, contamination, cleaning target and sample-test result, not power alone.

What information should I send before quotation?

Send the material, rust or coating condition, approximate thickness, cleaning area, photos and required finish. Include your daily workload, onsite or workshop use, destination country and available power supply.
